Western Illinois Firefighters Association (WIFA) was organized in November of 1987. Its main purpose is the mobilization of forces for mutual aid and to share resources and information.
According to WIFA's By-Laws its objective shall be: "for the mobilization of forces for Mutual Aid, especially in the case of incidents beyond the capabilities of any one department, the mutual rescue and emergency medical services. The purpose of this Association is to form an organization that can share the resources of all member departments. These resources can be in training, fire prevention or major emergency/hazardous incident equipment."
Wifa is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
*Eliminated "no-man's land" in Knox County*
*Started the movement and eventual implementation of the 911 emergency enhancement system*
*Developed a partnership with the host department of the Galesburg Regional Fire Training Center and the Illinois Fire Service Institute*
*Helped develop member departments to become part of MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System)*
*Expanded the training facility with the addition of a new burn building incorporating burn cans with a four story rappelling tower and confined space module.*
